2007 Kauai and Oahu

Who: Anita and Charles
Where: Kauai and Oahu, HI
When: August 18-September 1, 2007
Comment: For our 25th anniversary we spent two weeks in Hawai'i. The first week we stayed on Kauai, which we had visited a number of times and is our favorite island. We stayed at the Sheraton Kauai Resort near Poipu Beach on the south side of the island. While we were on Kauai we were fortunately enough to visit some of Anita's Vision Quest friends: John Draut and his wife and son, who were vacationing in a nearby resort, and Ann-Marie and Ray Holmes and Peter Luiten, who live on Kauai. Peter gave us the insider's tour of Princeville.

The second week we stayed on Oahu. We were booked at the Kuhio Banyan timeshare in Waikiki. Unfortunately this place was a dump. In addition to many other objectionable things there was a disco one floor below us that was open until 4 a.m. every night. We also disliked Waikiki -- too many people, too commercial, all the things we want to escape on a vacation. After suffering through three nights there we escaped to the Manoa Valley Inn, a bed-and-breakfast near the University of Hawaii Manoa campus. This was much more to our liking. While on Oahu we took a guided tour from Oahu Nature Tours and visited the Lyon Arboretum
